15 Reasons Why Water Is Important

September 13, 2023 by Nimra Basit Leave a Comment

Oceans contain around 96.5 percent of all water on Earth and cover about 71% of the planet’s surface.

Water sustains all living things on Earth by providing the necessary conditions for cellular growth and regeneration. The human body is made up of almost 60% water. You can survive without food for weeks, but if you go without water for three days, you’ll be dead.

This blog post will discuss 15 reasons why water is important for the environment and survival of all organisms.

15 Benefits Of Water That You Should Know

Water supports all life along with being a part of many vital processes that balance the ecosystem. Being a natural solvent, it has a powerful tendency to absorb a variety of chemicals. Water is crucial for various industries and even makes a safe and reliable source of energy.

1. Water Is A Natural Solvent

Because it can dissolve a wider range of chemicals than any other liquid, water is known as the universal solvent. This is significant for all living creatures on the planet. It implies that wherever water goes, it carries precious chemicals and nutrients with it.

Water dissolves many substances and minerals, which are very important in the body. It helps to dissolve salts and minerals like sodium and potassium. It also dissolves chemicals and other toxins in the body.

2. Water Supports The Life

Water, being a part of our environment sustains life on the Earth. It’s a necessary part of survival for everyone.

Water is a chemical element required for all life functions of the Earth. Water supports all life on this planet and without it, we would not exist.

3. Water Supports The Entire Ecosystem

Every living thing needs water to survive and grow healthy. Plants, insects, animals need water to stay alive. If we don’t have enough rainfall or a freshwater source, then vegetation dies, and species go extinct across the entire ecosystem.

The interconnectedness of all living things is startlingly evident when you look at how one organism depends on another to survive.

4. Water Is Present On Other Planets And Moons

Water is found in abundance on many different planets and moons across our solar system. It’s even present in large quantities on Mercury, Saturn’s moon Enceladus, and Jupiter’s moon Europa.

The ice giant, also known as the water giant planets Uranus and Neptune are believed to have a supercritical water ocean beneath their clouds, accounting for about two-thirds of their total mass, most likely surrounding small rocky cores.

The presence of water means that it could potentially be possible to develop life on these planets.

5. Water Is Essential To Carry Water Cycle

The water cycle is a system that involves several different processes that depicts the continuous movement of water on the planet and in the atmosphere.

It’s a complex mechanism. Liquid water evaporates into moisture, condenses to form clouds, and precipitates back to earth as rain and snow.

Water is the main carrier of the water cycle and it ensures that the Earth has a ready supply no matter what season it is. This process works by evaporation, which absorbs heat from its surroundings and turns it into vapor (gas).

6. Water Helps Regulates The Temperature Of The Earth

Water holds and releases heat energy because of its unique molecular properties. For this reason, it helps regulate the temperature of the Earth.

Without water evaporating from our oceans and lakes, there would be no clouds in the atmosphere. The clouds release heat back into the atmosphere when they turn to droplets which cools down the Earth’s land surface.

7. Water Helps To Protect Against Pollution

Pollution and contamination are both negative environmental changes that can have a dire impact on the planet.

Water is integral to making sure that there’s clean air, soil, and water because it’s crucial even when processed as wastewater – we get pure water for our needs through the water treatment. The end product of this process is drinking water that can be consumed by humans or other animals.

8. Water Helps To Sustain The Food Chain

Water is directly responsible for our agricultural advancements. Without water, plants would not grow, and without plants, there would be no food supply for the countless number of animals that rely on vegetation to survive.

Water nourishes plants and trees, which form the basis of our food chain. When there’s too little precipitation – or if the area is drought-stricken the water cycle becomes interrupted and crops die out. Most plants need water in order to grow, whether it’s by providing moisture directly through rainfall or indirectly through irrigation.

9. Water Is Essential For Recreational Activities

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying yourself by taking a refreshing dip in the water or going on an exciting fishing trip!

Water provides a creative and versatile solution for many recreational activities, such as swimming and other types of sports.

Many sports are dependant on water. Without water, it would be a lot less fun!

10. Water Is Important For Transportation

Although infrequent, transportation can be disrupted if there is not enough water for barges, boats, ferries, and other vessels to float on. If waterways are dry or dammed up by flooding, it’s nearly impossible to ship goods across the country.

The sea ports generate a great revenue, bringing foreign currency to help with the economy.

Transportation would grind to a halt because people couldn’t get the essential supplies that they need to survive.

11. Water Is Vital For Manufacturing

Water is needed when various processes are being carried out in manufacturing factories.

Without water, manufacturing facilities wouldn’t be able to produce consumer goods because it’s an ingredient in their production process. The machinery needs clean, fresh water to function properly and the by-products from manufacturing need a safe place to go.

12. Water Is Vital For Healthcare

Water is used for various purposes in the healthcare industry including cleaning, testing, and drinking. Many processes require lots of water to be carried out such as sterilization during surgery and maintaining hygiene standards when treating patients.

If there wasn’t enough clean water for these purposes, healthcare could not be carried out.

13. Water Is A Source Of Energy

Hydroelectric power plants rely on the energy produced by flowing water. Water is required for a wide range of energy sources, including fuel extraction and production.

Water is also required in the process of refining natural gas, oil, and uranium. Water is not only essential for life but also the functioning of society. Without water, entire cities would fall off the grid.

The lack of water results in higher consumption of electricity. This makes it more expensive for everyone.

14. Water Makes Up The Human Body

Humans are made up of over 60% water, so it’s extremely important for survival.

Water is required for the transportation of nutrients, functions in the digestive system, and lubricates joints and organs. It also regulates body temperature, carries away waste materials and toxins through sweat, and hwlp with blood flow. Hence consuming 6-8 glasses of water daily is a must!

15. Water Is Refreshing!

Many people drink beverages like sodas, coffee, and alcohol every day. Although these drinks can provide you with energy, they are potentially harming the body.

They contain caffeine and sugar which can lead to dehydration. Although some drinks like tea may be beneficial in some ways, it’s only about half as effective at hydrating the body as pure water is.

When you drink enough fluids throughout the day, you will feel refreshed and invigorated. You will notice that you have more energy throughout the day, and your body will work better as a result!

The Importance Of Water – Conclusion

We need water for our survival. It supports life and we depend on it. As humans, we need water to survive and thrive. It is important for our health. Water is also a source of energy for us.

The world’s population is growing quickly and the amount of freshwater available per person is decreasing. We need to take steps now to ensure that future generations will have clean drinking water and enough sources of energy. Hence, we should work to conserve this resource.
